Team Matrix Members Shine at Prestigious Dressage at Devon
Team Matrix members were a big hit at this year's prestigious Dressage at Devon - both in the ring and out. The annual international dressage competition held September 23-28 in Devon, Pennsylvania, is considered America's premier dressage show, drawing competitors from around the world.
Unlike most other dressage competitions, riders must qualify to compete at Devon and this year, Team Matrix members were there. Team Matrix members Jane Hannigan and Jacqueline Brooks competed in Saturday evening's popular Grand Prix Freestyle competition, held in the historic Dixon Oval ring, surrounded by a sold-out crowd of spectators. Both riders scored an impressive 71.05 percent in the competition, leaving the judges to use the technical scores to break the tie for third. Brooks received the third-place finish and Hannigan finished fourth.
Hannigan, who rides for the U.S. and represented her country at the 2008 Dressage World Cup, competed with her long-time partner, Maksymilian, a Matrix horse. Brooks, who rides for Canada and represented her country at the 2008 Olympics in Hong Kong, competed with her Matrix horse Gran Gesto. Brooks admitted to being rather shocked at how much energy Gran Gesto had when he arrived at Devon for competition, considering that only a month before he had traveled half-way around the world to return home from Hong Kong. She was surprised to discover that Gran Gesto "needed no time off" before heading back into competition at Devon.
It wasn't just inside the ring that Team Matrix members were in action at Dressage at Devon. Team member Sue Jaccoma was on hand coaching a number of her leading students to top placings at Devon and Matrix Vice President Keith Manfred was also on the grounds lending support to Team Matrix members. Manfred also served as host to dozens of Matrix clients who enjoyed gathering in Devon's wine tent to socialize and learn more about the Matrix. Just how popular the Matrix has become was evident by the number of Matrix hats worn about the Devon show grounds.
"It's amazing how many people came up to me at Devon and said, 'I use the Matrix and I love it.' And people aren't just feeding it to their horses, they're taking it themselves," Manfred said. "It's a good feeling to know that the Matrix is helping so many people and their horses feel better and stay healthier."
The Matrix will soon launch a number of additional nutritional products that target specific health needs of horses with the goal of helping more horses live longer, healthier lives. For more information on Matrix nutritional supplements for horses, humans and pets, visit www.mushroommatrix.com.

Bettina and Vousy will be seen schooling around the grounds but Quarter Horse owners and fans can also visit Bettina and Vousy in the barn area where Matrix nutritional products and information will also be available. Look for the Matrix banner in the show barns and watch the grounds for flyers announcing Bettina and Vousy's schedule. Also, look for free copies of the Eclectic Horseman with its extensive profile of Bettina in its latest issue.
The annual Quarter Horse Congress draws more than half a million Quarter Horse owners and fans from throughout the world and is the Quarter Horse industry's star attraction. This year, the event runs from Oct. 4-26 and during that time, nearly 10,000 Quarter Horses will pass through the gates of the show grounds.
Dr. Marvin Hausman to Speak at International Equine Exhibition in Dubai
Dr. Marvin Hausman MD, one of the researchers behind the creation of the Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements, has been invited to speak at the 2008 Al Fares, which serves as the largest annual gathering for the exhibition of equine-related products and services in the Middle East and Africa. This year's event will be held October 28-30 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The event traditionally attracts more than 300 exhibitors and thousands of visitors, including many leading equine veterinarians from Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Dr. Hausman has been asked to speak about the role of nutrition in the treatment and prevention of illness and disease in horses and his lecture is specifically geared toward the nutritional benefit of mushrooms.
In the past two years, a number of studies involving the Matrix have been undertaken in order to understand better the health benefits of the Matrix for horses. Although studies are still ongoing, initial results indicate that the Matrix does help address a number of health issues in horses, such as reducing inflammation and improving oxygen efficiency. Dr. Hausman will be presenting the results of some of these studies during his lecture in Dubai.
High in antioxidants, beta-glucans and polysaccharides, mushrooms are considered by many to be one of nature's most perfect foods. Not only are they loaded with healthy nutrients, but those nutrients are easily absorb and used by mammals, which includes horses and humans.
Research into the benefits of medicinal mushrooms in the treatment of disease has indicated that mushrooms can play an important role in combating a number of diseases, including cancer, heart disease, immune system disorders and diabetes. The studies, of which Dr. Hausman will speak, indicate that the Matrix can provide the same health benefits as one would receive by eating whole mushrooms.
